Award-winning screenwriter Steven E. de Souza is one of the more brilliant men with whom I’ve had the pleasure to work. Under his tutelage, one must grow accustomed quickly to multiple re-writes. This master of the written word is a perfectionist, so he’s not satisfied until his writers have exhausted their absolute best, their fingers fall off or their heads explode, whichever comes first.
Steven put me to task when we worked on “Street Fighter” together. In addition to portraying myself in the movie, he allowed me to compose my own standup — a breaking news story about the death of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s alter ego.
And as of this writing, I am still working with my dear friend on a major project. Details to follow. Stay tuned!
Now that “Street Fighter: Extreme Edition” has finally been released, here’s one of my favorite memory shots with Jean-Claude Van Damme. My husband, Grand, portrays “Balrog” in the movie and I play myself, a television news broadcaster who tells the world about “Guile’s death.” Jean-Claude and I worked together on location for three months, sharing the same hotel and water taxi. Back in the states, we even shop at the same supermarket in Santa Monica!
